With Congress now, finally, emboldened into opposing the war in Iraq, here's Laura Nyro's impassioned anti-war song from 1971; a different war then, but as misguided as our current foolish escapade. As the song says:
I got fury in my soul, fury's gonna take me to the glory goal
In my mind I can't study war no more
Save the people! Save the children! Save the country now!
The song begins playfully (quite unlike Bob Dylan's minor key anti-war refrains) but then ends with her literally screaming 'Now!!'--and she's able to scream in tune! Such were her vocal talents.
Will Congress, to quote Nyro, 'save the country'? Let's hope so.
