The Bush administration seems to work overtime fiddling with facts--and lately, with language. Fresh on the heels of calling torture 'alternative interrogation', here is another brain twister. Confronted with the fact that, since the last year of the Clinton administration, hunger has risen 43%, the Bush administration went into action immediately--they renamed the very word itself'! Hunger is now now 'very low food security'!! I had thought the Nixon Administration had been the experts at Orwellian double speak, with their habit of using acronyms for police state behavior. (Their domestic surveillance program was COINTELPRO, for Coordinated Intelligence program, which even J. Edgar Hoover thought went over the line; but at least they had the relative humility to attempt to disguise the program; Bush is openly proud of his unconstitutional behavior.) Now, however, the Bush Administration has completed the whole Orwellian circle; we see hunger, they want us to think 'food insecurity'. Just as Big Brother forced Winston Smith to not only say, but believe that 2 plus 2 = 3.
Well, gotta run. Haven't had breakfast yet, & I'm feeling very hungry...I mean, I have very low food security.
